Using Keywords to Find Legitimate Telecommuting Job Leads


Many people are choosing telecommuting as an option to bring in an income while being at home. Whatever the reasons that we choose to work at home, the one thing we all have in common is the problem of locating legitimate jobs online. We often come online with the idea that finding a job online will be easy.

Unfortunately it’s not usually that easy. What you will often run into are the scams for working at home. Why is that though? We often find the job search websites and plug in two common keywords. These two keywords are often the reason many of us give up on finding a legitimate job because all that pulls up are the scams.

The keywords I’m speaking of are:

•Work at home

•Work from home

--> With the keywords “work at home,” you’re almost 100% guaranteed to pull up scams or business opportunities, and not the legitimate jobs. Now don’t get me wrong, there can be legit jobs in these keywords. Iit takes much longer to find them, and it’s much harder to locate them. In my 4 plus years of working at home, I’ve discovered lesser used keywords that yield me much better results.

Popular Keywords:

•Telecommuting

•Telecommute

•Telecommuter

--> These three keywords are second to “work at home” in their popularity. A pro of these keywords is that many leads will be listed with them. I find legitimate job leads using these keywords every time I search with them. I also find the scams, but overall these keywords are great to use with your job search.

7 More Keywords to Use

•Must have home office
•1099
•IC or independent contractor
•Virtual office and virtual
•Remote contractor
•Off-site
•Freelance

--> Next on the list are these 7 keywords. Next to telecommuting, these are my favorite. Often they will pull up legitimate jobs. You won’t always find a good variety of leads all the time. Sometimes the deeper you dig, the better the jobs and the better your chance that hundreds of other people haven’t found that same job.

Last 3 Keywords to Try

•Home-based
•Home-based employee

--> Last, I use these 3 keywords when finishing up my job search. I don’t always find leads with these keywords on every job search site I go to, but the more job search sites you go to, the better your chance you’ll find leads with all these keywords. Basically, the more keywords you use and the more job sites you go to, the better your chance at locating legitimate job leads. Even if it takes you a few hours a week to do your searching, with all the keywords and job search sites, it’s worth it in the end if you land a job!

Another thing to keep in mind for speeding up the job search is to know what a scam looks like so you can avoid it. I’ve gotten to the point where I can usually just read the title of the “job” and know right away it’s a scam. If I do click in a job lead, within a few seconds I can determine if it’s a scam or sketchy. I wasn’t able to do that when I first started out in the telecommuting field, though. In my time of being scammed and reading others being scammed, I discovered the common scams and the common red flags. In closing, I’d like to say that using these keywords is a good start. When you find legitimate jobs, really search through the description and see what keywords they use. When you find a new keyword, jot that down and add it to your keyword list. The more keywords you use, the better your chance of finding and landing a legitimate job!

Are you searching for that perfect telecommute job? Have you been a fallen victim to work at home job companies? You are not alone. The scam companies generously scatter the Internet. Unfortunately these scammers are getting wiser at scamming honest job seekers. These job seekers are shelling out money that they should be spending on food or household bills...making the scammers richer by the dozens.

Well, I have good news for you... I'm going to share with you the top five things to look for in finding a "legitimate" telecommute job.

1. Does the company require a registration fee? A legitimate job site will not charge you these fees. This is the number one sign of a run-of-the-mill home based Internet scam. You are searching for a home job where the employer pays you...not the other way around.

Important: There are certain instances where a nominal fee is required...such as purchasing a foot pedal or a headset. These are all normal and required in order for you to do the job. In some cases you may be required to pay for a background check.

2. Is the website full of hype and spelling errors? If you come up on a telecommute company site full of hype and spelling/grammar errors...click away, you can bet that it's a scam site. And why would you even want to work for someone that presents themselves in this way? For one...I would be quite skeptical about wages with a site such as this. You will also find under all that hype (and usually in fine print) a hefty fee.

3. Does the website offer a telephone number or a working email address? A legitimate company will always provide a telephone number or their email address, or both. They want to be contacted because they want to hire you. You can't very well get the job if you can't get in touch with them, now can you? That should be one of the first things you look for.

4. Does the job site require a resume? A legitimate employer will want someone with certain skills and experience to do a specific job. Therefore, they will need a resume from you. Employers want experienced telecommuters that they know they can trust. This is where the resume comes in. This is a good sign! So far, so good...if you find a job website that does not require start-up or registration fees, is free from hype and spelling/grammar errors, provides a way of contact, and on top of all this requires a resume, it's looking pretty good. You're closer to finding an honest work at home job. Still one more important thing to look for...

5. Is the company vague about the job listing and promise outrageously high wages in a very short time? I'm sure you've seen the headlines such as "Make $1000 per week-Simple work from home!" Don't you think this deserves a red flag? Use your common sense here...there is no legitimate job that will pay you tons of money with little or no effort.

An employer that truly wants to hire you will tell you exactly what you will be doing and be upfront about the wages you will be earning.

Remember...if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Pay attention to your gut instincts! Always do your own research on ANY company before applying.

Help! How Do I Find Legitimate Telecommuting Jobs?


Tips and Guidelines for today's frustrated, I need to quit my job, worker.

I suppose a lot of you are wondering, how can I replace my $50,000 yearly income. I'm here to tell you "yes" you can do it. My income last year was comparable to any professional.

Funny thing is last night I was at the YMCA( waiting for my daughters swim team pictures) reading my latest book, "Think and Grow Rich" by N. Hill and I noticed a lady sitting next to me reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad. This of course immediately excited me and I broke into a conversation with her regarding all my legitimate telecommuting jobs in the past year. I don't know what exactly got into me, but I must say I really enjoyed talking about my legitimate telecommuting jobs.

How lucky am I that I work from home and I'm there to participate in my daughters activities. When our weekends arrive they are spent doing family activities, not catching up on work. So I feel blessed. I also feel that creativity is so important and the ability to think out of the box. We all need to work on this because I believe the school system has done a good job of making us all conform to the same thought process.

My typical day starts out with getting my twin daughters ready for school. Afterwards I exercise at the YMCA for one hour than precede to the grocery store to pick-up the evening's meal. I then check in with my employee (who's a great lady) and proceed to turn on my computer. I work until 2:30P.M., then pick-up my daughters and do activities with them which of course would be piano, homework, swim team practice. Evenings are spent talking to my husband, reading, and working online. I watch very little T.V. For one thing I find it totally boring. I do watch movies, but that's about it.

So I ask you, why do you keep working for a job that you don't like. Or maybe the problem is you have no time for your family, and your house is consistently a war zone of clutter?

There are various ways, but I must inform you patience is a virtue. No business evolves overnight. This is a struggle for a lot of people including myself. You want to see the fruits of your labor now. All things need time and nurturing.

1. Job Boards: Go to online sources such as Mega Job Boards. It is possible to find some legitimate telecommuting jobs here but be careful and do some screening. Also take a look at Niche job boards. Finding legitimate telecommute jobs can be challenging because there are so many scams and misleading opportunities that come up when you use traditional "work at home" search terms. This article will share some alternate ways to hunt down the REAL telecommute jobs.

Before we get to those, first take a minute to put yourself in the mind-set of an employer who wants to hire people to work at home. Mr. Telecommute Employer may be eager to find good candidates, but would he be so eager that he would fill his advertisement with promises of great riches for little work? Would he offer you an easy job that pays thousands of dollars a week? Or would he be more focused on finding candidates that have the skills his company is looking for and paying them a salary that matches the complexity of work?

Okay - so that is one obstacle out of the way, avoid ads that sound like they are trying to convince you that you will get rich doing the easiest job ever.

Now, would Mr. Telecommute Employer also be so excited about his job opportunity that he would load the ad with exclamation points, dollar signs and other miscellaneous punctuation marks? Probably not.

Okay - another sign of an illegitimate telecommute job, avoid ads that use excessive punctuation.

Finally, would Mr. Telecommute Employer be so determined to find the right candidates that he would try to charge them money to work for him? Definitely NOT.

Okay - so there's another big sign of a scam, asking for money to work for them.

There are other warning signs of telecommuting scams, but those are three big ones that you'll see most often during your job search.

Now you know what to avoid, but how do you go about FINDING the legitimate telecommute jobs?

As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, it's all about the search terms you use online. If you search for "work at home jobs" you will undoubtedly get tons of ads just like the ones I've described. In other words, not real jobs.

But let's go back to the mind of Mr. Telecommute Employer for a moment and ask ourselves, "What would he put in the ad to get the attention of potential telecommuters?"

Most likely he would include phrases like, "work remotely, telecommuting possible, partial telecommute considered, home office requirements, must be able to work independently," and so on.

Try searching on phrases like that and you should get many more legitimate job results than just searching on "work at home jobs".

So you've made the decision to telecommute. How many of those newsletters have you signed up for that promise sending endless job opportunities straight to your email box once a week or some even every day? Many sites out there are dedicated to providing quality telecommuting job opportunities delivered straight to your email box on a frequent basis.

While this, in and of itself, isn't necessarily bad (there is a possibility you might find a nice telecommuting job this way), I'd like to shed some light on things you might not have considered. And armed with this new knowledge your job hunt could lead to a telecommuting job you love.

By all means stay subscribed to all those free job list newsletters. There's a possibility of finding one that matches your skills and you landing a good job. But below are three issues you need to consider before deciding to totally rely on these free job lists alone in your work from home job search.

Issue One:

So you've signed up for ten quality job lists that will be providing you with a plethora of job choices. You took a big step to finding your telecommuting dream job. But so did 100,000 other people!

I'm reminded of an email I received recently from a well-known free telecommuting job list site. After receiving an email stating that I had been pre-approved for a credit card, they asked in the personal signature of the email if I got a chance to apply for any of the last vacant jobs posted in their jobs database. Then they went on to say to hurry over before the vacancies are filled because this message was being read by over 127,000 people!

Now don't get me wrong, this website is providing a good service. These quality job lists are very popular and everybody and their mother are jumping on board fueled by their desire to work from home. Now given that these job lists provide about twenty or so telecommuting job leads in each issue, what are your chances of landing one of those jobs? That is if one happens to match your qualifications? And that brings me to my second point.

Issue Two:

You have certain skills, and yes, there are also skills you don't have. The jobs that are going to be sent to you are going to require their own set of skills. What are the chances that the jobs in those lists are going to match up perfectly to your job skill set? Slim at best. Unless your lucky or happen to be in a field where telecommuting jobs are abundant you might have trouble finding a good match. But even if you are in one of these special fields the competition for telecommuting jobs in these areas are even stiffer.

Now granted, you could go out and acquire the skills for a certain job through online courses, books, etc. But in the time it takes to do this, you can kiss that awesome job opportunity you saw goodbye. Because with 100,000+ potential candidates looking at it, it'll be gone within a few days. Wouldn't it make more sense to locate jobs that fit your qualifications from the start, rather than wading through endless free lists of jobs that don't fit you?

Issue Three:

Telecommuting is hot right now. Where do you think the truly "good" jobs for telecommuting are going to be found? The kind with companies dedicated in supporting you in your telecommuting efforts. Now, put yourself in the shoes of a manager in a reputable company looking to hire someone into a position that allows telecommuting. Are you going to list this job all over the internet boasting of its telecommuting opportunities?

Employers know there are a lot of people who would like to telecommute today. If they listed this job as such, they would be faced with the time-consuming task of scanning through endless resumes trying to find a candidate that actually meets the qualifications of the position. They know that most of those candidates' resumes won't meet the job skill set required and are only desperate job seekers who send out their resume at every kind of opportunity. An employer's time is better spent on other things. Always remember this in your job pursuit: The employer is looking for a qualified employee, not a telecommuter.

Now, don't get discouraged by all the negativity mentioned above. We're going to discuss how to find a good job so you can telecommute and spend more time with your family or whatever reason you have for wanting to telecommute.

But first I needed to open your eyes to some issues. There are great telecommuting jobs out there that fit your unique set of skills and passions. You'll just need to dig for them.

Here are some useful tips for finding them:

1. Treat your job search like a non-telecommute job search. Remember employers want employees, not telecommuters. It's common for a telecommuting job search to take up to three times as long as a traditional job search.

2. Go after the jobs that you are qualified for. Here's an idea: Go to the job boards that require employers to pay a hefty fee to list their job opportunity. There are many out there. This will help weed out the scam artists. Very few of them will want to lay down $200 or more to list their scam.

Researching Legitimate Work at Home Jobs


When you start searching for work at home jobs on the internet, you will inevitably be faced with a dilemma: how can you tell for sure which companies are legitimate and which are scams? Sometimes it is almost impossible to know for sure, especially with new companies or those who are just beginning to build their internet presence.

However, there are several things you can do to research these companies to find out more:

1) Quality and focus of website

First things first; take a close look at their website. Does it have a neat and professional appearance? Do they focus more on their products and services rather than the fact that they hire telecommuters? Do they have a bunch of testimonials from people who are (supposedly) working for them and raving about what a great opportunity it is?

Whether you have prior business experience or not, you should be able to tell at a glance whether the company website seems to be legitimate. Even so, don't stop here because even some scammers know how to make a site look professional - they could even get a pre-made template to use.

Also take a moment to check the Whois information on the domain name. This will tell you when the domain name was registered, and by whom. If the domain was just registered a month ago and the company website says they have been in business for years, that may be a warning. (Not always - sometimes the company has focused all of their attention to offline business and are just now creating an internet presence. Still, be cautious.)

2) Contact information

On the company website should be some real contact information, like a telephone number and street address. If there is a telephone number, call and see if you get routed directly to voicemail. If there is an address, pull up a map service like Mapquest or Yahoo Maps and enter the address. Does it give you directions, or tell you the address doesn't exist? Do a Yellow Pages search and see if another company comes up for that address. I once researched a company that I was almost positive was legitimate but when I looked up their address I found out a funeral parlor was actually at that address. (Yes, I called to verify it; the funeral parlor had been there for years.)

3) Do they ask for money?

This really should be number one on the list of warning signs to look for, but sometimes scammers are much more subtle about it and they don't ask for money until you decide to apply for the job. If you see there's a fee right when you get to the website, then you really don't need to research any further! Legitimate employers will not ask for money, period. I don't care what they call it, an administrative fee, a processing fee, a "prove you're serious" fee, or any other kind of fee. If they ask for money, that is your cue to exit the website and not look back.

4) Check out the scam websites

There are a few great scam reporting sites that can be helpful when researching a company, like scam dot com and scambusters dot org. Visit these sites and search for the company you are researching. But don't stop there! Also search for any other information you have, like the name of the owner, hiring manager, and so on. If any reports come up, you will be able to read of others' experiences with the company. (By the way, just because a company is reported on these websites does not necessarily mean it's a scam. Sometimes disgruntled ex-employees try to stir up trouble, or there could be reports of poor customer service that weren't resolved satisfactorily, etc. Still, these sites are a good way to learn more about the company in general.)

5) General internet searches

You can also perform a few targeted internet searches for the company name, owner's name, domain name, and so on. Use quotation marks like this: "http://www.companydomain.com", and "XYZ company". Any webpages, blogs, or discussion forums that mention those terms will come up in your search. Most likely, if the company has been hiring telecommuters for some time, you will find plenty of discussions about them on popular work at home forums. This is a good thing because you can hear directly from people who work for the company, or people who can tell you for sure that it's a scam. Even so, take all this information with a grain of salt. Gather as much information as you can so you can make an informed decision.

6) Your gut usually knows more than your brain

Finally, your most powerful weapon against scams is your own gut! If something doesn't feel right, pay attention to that hunch. Don't let your desperation take control and push you into making decisions you will regret later. If your goal is to find legitimate work at home jobs, then keep searching until you find something you feel absolutely confident is for real. There ARE plenty of legitimate companies that hire telecommuters, you just need to be patient in hunting them down.

Help! How Do I Find Legitimate Telecommuting Jobs?


Tips and Guidelines for today's frustrated, I need to quit my job, worker.

I suppose a lot of you are wondering, how can I replace my $50,000 yearly income. I'm here to tell you "yes" you can do it. My income last year was comparable to any professional.

Funny thing is last night I was at the YMCA( waiting for my daughters swim team pictures) reading my latest book, "Think and Grow Rich" by N. Hill and I noticed a lady sitting next to me reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad. This of course immediately excited me and I broke into a conversation with her regarding all my legitimate telecommuting jobs in the past year. I don't know what exactly got into me, but I must say I really enjoyed talking about my legitimate telecommuting jobs.

How lucky am I that I work from home and I'm there to participate in my daughters activities. When our weekends arrive they are spent doing family activities, not catching up on work. So I feel blessed. I also feel that creativity is so important and the ability to think out of the box. We all need to work on this because I believe the school system has done a good job of making us all conform to the same thought process.

My typical day starts out with getting my twin daughters ready for school. Afterwards I exercise at the YMCA for one hour than precede to the grocery store to pick-up the evening's meal. I then check in with my employee (who's a great lady) and proceed to turn on my computer. I work until 2:30P.M., then pick-up my daughters and do activities with them which of course would be piano, homework, swim team practice. Evenings are spent talking to my husband, reading, and working online. I watch very little T.V. For one thing I find it totally boring. I do watch movies, but that's about it.

So I ask you, why do you keep working for a job that you don't like. Or maybe the problem is you have no time for your family, and your house is consistently a war zone of clutter?

So how do you find Legitimate Telecommuting jobs?

There are various ways, but I must inform you patience is a virtue. No business evolves overnight. This is a struggle for a lot of people including myself. You want to see the fruits of your labor now. All things need time and nurturing.

Tips in finding Legitimate Telecommuting Jobs?

1. Job Boards: Go to online sources such as Mega Job Boards. It is possible to find some legitimate telecommuting jobs here but be careful and do some screening. Also take a look at Niche job boards. These are boards that advertise jobs within a particular or category. Retailjobs.com is an example of an industry niche board.

2. Staffing Firms Web Sites: Because telecommuting been growing in popularity, there

Find A Legitimate Telecommuting Job With These Easy Tips


So you've made the decision to telecommute. How many of those newsletters have you signed up for that promise sending endless job opportunities straight to your email box once a week or some even every day? Many sites out there are dedicated to providing quality telecommuting job opportunities delivered straight to your email box on a frequent basis.

While this, in and of itself, isn't necessarily bad (there is a possibility you might find a nice telecommuting job this way), I'd like to shed some light on things you might not have considered. And armed with this new knowledge your job hunt could lead to a telecommuting job you love.

By all means stay subscribed to all those free job list newsletters. There's a possibility of finding one that matches your skills and you landing a good job. But below are three issues you need to consider before deciding to totally rely on these free job lists alone in your work from home job search.

Issue One:

So you've signed up for ten quality job lists that will be providing you with a plethora of job choices. You took a big step to finding your telecommuting dream job. But so did 100,000 other people!

I'm reminded of an email I received recently from a well-known free telecommuting job list site. After receiving an email stating that I had been pre-approved for a credit card, they asked in the personal signature of the email if I got a chance to apply for any of the last vacant jobs posted in their jobs database. Then they went on to say to hurry over before the vacancies are filled because this message was being read by over 127,000 people!

Now don't get me wrong, this website is providing a good service. These quality job lists are very popular and everybody and their mother are jumping on board fueled by their desire to work from home. Now given that these job lists provide about twenty or so telecommuting job leads in each issue, what are your chances of landing one of those jobs? That is if one happens to match your qualifications? And that brings me to my second point.

Issue Two:

You have certain skills, and yes, there are also skills you don't have. The jobs that are going to be sent to you are going to require their own set of skills. What are the chances that the jobs in those lists are going to match up perfectly to your job skill set? Slim at best. Unless your lucky or happen to be in a field where telecommuting jobs are abundant you might have trouble finding a good match. But even if you are in one of these special fields the competition for telecommuting jobs in these areas are even stiffer.

Now granted, you could go out and acquire the skills for a certain job through online courses, books, etc. But in the time it takes to do this, you can kiss that awesome job opportunity you saw goodbye. Because with 100,000+ potential candidates looking at it, it'll be gone within a few days. Wouldn't it make more sense to locate jobs that fit your qualifications from the start, rather than wading through endless free lists of jobs that don't fit you?

Issue Three:

Telecommuting is hot right now. Where do you think the truly "good" jobs for telecommuting are going to be found? The kind with companies dedicated in supporting you in your telecommuting efforts. Now, put yourself in the shoes of a manager in a reputable company looking to hire someone into a position that allows telecommuting. Are you going to list this job all over the internet boasting of its telecommuting opportunities?

Employers know there are a lot of people who would like to telecommute today. If they listed this job as such, they would be faced with the time-consuming task of scanning through endless resumes trying to find a candidate that actually meets the qualifications of the position. They know that most of those candidates' resumes won't meet the job skill set required and are only desperate job seekers who send out their resume at every kind of opportunity. An employer's time is better spent on other things. Always remember this in your job pursuit: The employer is looking for a qualified employee, not a telecommuter.

Now, don't get discouraged by all the negativity mentioned above. We're going to discuss how to find a good job so you can telecommute and spend more time with your family or whatever reason you have for wanting to telecommute.

But first I needed to open your eyes to some issues. There are great telecommuting jobs out there that fit your unique set of skills and passions. You'll just need to dig for them.

Here are some useful tips for finding them:

1. Treat your job search like a non-telecommute job search. Remember employers want employees, not telecommuters. It's common for a telecommuting job search to take up to three times as long as a traditional job search.

2. Go after the jobs that you are qualified for. Here's an idea: Go to the job boards that require employers to pay a hefty fee to list their job opportunity. There are many out there. This will help weed out the scam artists. Very few of them will want to lay down $200 or more to list their scam.

Go perform a search at several large job sites and place "telecommuting" or "telecommute" as the keyword search phrase, choose your category, and possibly narrow your search to your immediate location. Some of the better telecommuting jobs will require you to visit the office from time to time.

3. Do your job search by looking for companies that are telecommuter friendly rather than searching for individual jobs from the start. Just do a search in any major search engine for "telecommute friendly companies" or something similar. When you find them go to their websites and look for their available position openings. There's a possibility of finding a job that meets your skill set and desires.

4. And finally, one of the better ways to find telecommuting jobs is through a company dedicated to locating them for you. There are reputable companies who spend their time working with companies that are looking to hire telecommuters. Now granted some of these job list sites are better than others and you'll more than likely have to pay for the work the companies have done locating these job leads for you. They don't have large advertising budgets like the larger free online job search engines.

By going this route for finding a telecommuting job, you'll save yourself time and your competition for a particular job you are interested in will be a lot less. Fewer people hang out on the inside of these pay-for-access membership sites thus giving you the advantage for landing a job you find interesting.

These websites are a good resource to invest in. They are dedicated to providing work from home job seekers with legitimate telecommuting jobs without all the business "opportunities", mlm, and other unwanted scams that are so prevalent on the internet today.
