Legitimate Work at Home Jobs and Business Opportunities

So you want to work at home? Maybe you want to work at home because you can be home with your family... maybe you just want to be able to work in your pajamas. Maybe you want to shorten your commute? That five minute commute to the home office is pretty appealing to a lot of people.

In September of 2009, the Small Business Association reported approximately 15 million home-based businesses in the United States alone. Kate Lister, author of "Undress For Success" states at least 2.5 million people are telecommuting in the United States, not including the self-employed.

Many people are not happy with their jobs, their limited income, and the fact that their lives are dependent on a job for security. Others have lost their jobs and are looking for a way to supplement their unemployment benefits or replace lost income.

Whatever your reason is for wanting to work at home, you need to start making money right away so you can maintain your current lifestyle. Then, you need to be able to increase your income so that you can improve your financial situation.

Unfortunately, many people who want to work at home find that making money from home is not as easy as they thought it would be. Nothing is worse than working countless hours for no money... except maybe spending money on bogus business opportunities and trainings that don't work.

So, how do you distinguish between legitimate work at home jobs and business opportunities and the money sucking junk that is littering the Internet?

Legitimate Work at Home Jobs

Here, we are talking about working for someone else, or telecommuting. The easiest way to start telecommuting is to convince your current employer your job can be done either partially or completely from your home, without any negative effects to the existing business.

There are many jobs which can be done from home: accounts payable, accounts receivable, web design, customer support, marketing and project management are just a few jobs that can be done from home.

If you are good at your current job, you have built trust with your employer, and your job is not reliant on you being in the office (ie. answering phones, greeting customers) your boss may be open to letting you work at home.

Doing a search on Google for legitimate work at home jobs brings back millions of results so be careful and be smart. Research the company offering the job, know how you are going to be paid, and don't get involved in a job that makes you pay to be hired.

Legitimate Work at Home Business Opportunities

Business Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes, investment levels and earning potentials. There are millions of business opportunities on the Internet. Deciding which business is best for you can be very confusing...even overwhelming.

A business opportunity is not a job, it is a business. A home-based business can be as profitable or more profitable than a franchise or any other brick and mortar business. Most home business opportunities can be started for under $2,000, sometimes they cost little to nothing to start. With such low start up investments, anyone can work at home.

Imagine your investment in your home business is equal to the investment in a McDonalds Franchise. If you invested a million dollars or more to get started, you would take your business seriously. You would follow a business plan and educate yourself on the correct steps and actions to make your business successful. Your business would grow according to predictable, industry standards, due to your hard work, your team, and because McDonalds has a proven system in place.

A business opportunity, like a franchise, will not pay you by the hour, but it will pay you for your efforts, actions, knowledge, skills and determination. Just like the McDonalds franchise, you must follow a proven system. You must do what successful people are doing to become successful.

So how do you determine which business opportunity is the best one for you to invest your time and money into?

Above all, do something you love. Find something you are passionate about, something that you would do even if you never got paid. Then find a way to make money doing it. This is the path to financial freedom. When you play at your work, you are set free from financial worries.

Do your due diligence. Research the company, the products, the industry, the market, and the person who will be your mentor. Find out if there is a proven system, what will your daily, weekly and monthly money making actions be? What type of training is offered by the parent company? What type of training is offered by your mentor?

How, when, and how much do you get paid for your efforts? If you need to replace your current income, what do you have to do to reach that income level? For example, if you are currently making $1,000 a week at your job-how soon can you consistently replace that income? What will it take to double that? Triple it?

Working at home for someone else requires discipline, but working at home for your own business requires a burning desire to succeed, a proven system to get there, and laser focus to keep you on track.

Telecommuting and the Small Business Owner

Telecommuting is becoming a cost effective, convenient way to hire employees or contractors that provide both large and small businesses with the services they need. From customer service to administrative services, accounting and legal services, to almost every type of help a business owner needs, most of them can be provided virtually in today's information technology age.

Less Cost

Hiring telecommute employees or contractors can drastically reduce the amount of overhead that is spent on traditional in-office employees. Reducing the number of employees or contractors that work in an office will decrease the rent payment for office space, utility costs, and the amount of office equipment needed. By employing telecommuters you can require that they are responsible for providing their own equipment, even a whole office setup if required. Most people who are interested in obtaining a telecommute position will already have a home office available. Business owners can also reduce their costs by employing independent contractors versus employees. Independent contractors are responsible for their own taxes, healthcare, life insurance, and vacation time. There is also no sick pay, maternity leave or other government mandated benefits that are provided to actual employees.

Larger Pool of Applicants

By employing a telecommute worker to perform the services that your business needs, you will have a much larger applicant pool to choose from. If you are able to hire the worker either nationally or internationally, you will have thousands of qualified applicants to choose from. Even if you need to hire someone that is within your geographic region, the range of qualified individuals will be much larger if they are only required to meet occasionally and can spend the majority of work telecommuting. By hiring a telecommuting individual, you can tap into those applicants who are homebound, but qualified, those who have family members they are taking care of, and many others who are otherwise qualified, but unable to be at an office 40 hours a week.

Satisfied Workers=More Productivity

Telecommute workers are generally more satisfied in their careers because of the flexibility and the environment they are able to work in. Because they are not stuck in the office everyday, have more flexibility to get their work done, and don't have a boss overseeing their every move, they are able to perform better, and ultimately increase productivity for the business. For the telecommuter, the satisfaction comes from their employer allowing them the flexibility to manage their time and projects as they need to, as well as by accomplishing the tasks that are assigned to them, proving that they can be completed without having to be in the traditional workplace.

The benefits of employing telecommute employees or independent contractors greatly exceed those of traditional workers. Less cost, larger selection of applicants as well as greater productivity are just some of the reasons an employer may want to consider the telecommuting avenue to achieve their business goals. Most traditional office work can now be completed virtually, which provides employers and contractors or employees with greater flexibility and options to get the job done.

At Home Jobs With Major Corporations - Telecommuting Vs Owning Your Own Home-Based Business

Due to the ever expanding world of the Internet and technology, the choices and opportunities for working from home are increasing at a phenomenal pace.  There is a huge choice for anyone who wishes to work from home and what most of these come down to is to either telecommute or start and run your own home business and work for yourself.  So what do these two options involve and what are the pros and cons?

Telecommuting:

Telecommuting is when a person works for someone else or some other company from their home instead of that company's office location.  Some companies may allow their telecommuting employees to work from home either part or full time, but they may also require them to work at the office at least one day per week or come in to attend company meetings.  When an employee decides to telecommute rather than work at the office they are also often not entitled to the full compensation benefits that they could have received.

The benefits of telecommuting are similar to many work at home jobs except for the fact that they are under the supervision of this company and are unable to decide their own income the way they could if they were their own boss.

The two biggest disadvantages of telecommuting are:

Telecommuters often tend to feel disconnected from their company, co-workers and boss because they are at home instead of in their office every day.
Telecommuters often seem to have concerns that their work and contributions to the company will not be fully appreciated or recognized by the company.

Owning Your Own Home-Based Business:

Some people are satisfied with being an employee and working for someone else, rather than owning their own business, but it's critical to understand the potential for earning a far greater income if they had their own business instead.  With a home-based business, a person is able to work for themselves and be their own boss, earning all the profits and commissions instead of working for someone else and making them rich.

Two of the main advantages to Owning your Own Home Business:

You can work at your own pace and on your own schedule.
You have the potential to earn an unlimited income.

The greatest part about working from home, especially with the online marketing industry, is that it is an amazing way to secure your income and financial future!

There are definitely options out there for working at home jobs with major corporations, telecommuting and owning your own home business, you will just have to do some research to decide what is the most important for you as far as your personal goals and income needs are concerned.  If you are fine with working for another company and being an employee at home, then telecommuting would probably be fine for you, but if you are serious about earning a more serious income and setting your own hours and goals for your financial future, then you will probably find much more benefit with owning your own home business.  Look for a company with an excellent training and mentoring program as well as a business and compensation plan that will provide you with the tools you need to reach that success in direct proportion and respect to your hard work and energy!

Home-Based Job Vs Home-Based Business

Many men and women are looking for a way to make money from home to supplement their income. A couple of ways to do this is working for someone else via a home based job or having a home based business.

Home based jobs are quite hard to find. Though, they are possible to find, you will need certain qualifications in order to work for most legit companies. If you are looking for a Data Entry job, you will need to take tests in order to prove your typing and ten key skills. You can also find Telecommuting jobs such as answering services. There are even places that will pay you to proofread and write. You can find these types of companies by searching the internet for work at home websites. Please remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is! If an ad says that you can make thousands of dollars in a week... BEWARE!!! More than likely they will ask for money for "start up" costs. A legit company will NOT ask you to pay for a work from home "job". I recommend talking to your current employer to see if they are willing to work something out for you to work full time or part time from home. You can also visit many of the mom message boards online for information on companies to find out if they are legit or scams.

Having your own home based business is a great way to make money from home. You can become a representative for a company or create your own products. With some companies that offer representative positions, you may have to pay to join. This is also referred to as Direct Sales. Other companies offer their program free. When you pay to join, you may receive a kit of the products, a website, brochures and other items to help promote their website and products. You would then make a percentage of each sale. Although, there is the potential for great earnings being a representative, the best way to make a profit with your own business is to make your own products. If you have a tax id, you can find many of the materials to make your products at wholesale prices. The internet is a great source for wholesale craft supplies. If you decide to make your own products there is the potential to make even more money. You could offer your products wholesale to other companies, drop ship them for other companies or even start your own direct sales company.

Whether you decide to go with a job or a business, please do your research on any company you are interested in. You can do this by checking with the Better Business Bureau, other work at home parents (message boards) or by searching the internet for complaints and problems with them.

Most of all have fun and do what you enjoy doing the most!

Business Telecommuting Opportunities - Taking the World by Storm

Telecommuting business opportunities are taking over the world of today. With the way things are going, people can expect offices to be of no use anymore. More and more people will do their work at home using the tools and capabilities of computers. There is no more need wake early and battle the traffic going to the office. Plus, you do not have to face colleagues that ruin your day.

This is what telecommuting is all about. By now, there are a number of business opportunities being are fast becoming a tempting option. The negative feedbacks that are being said about the online world are not stopping people from finding the telecommuting business opportunity that they like.

Advantages of telecommuting business opportunities.

1. Minimum disturbances.

Do not you just hate it when you are in the middle of something and your boss asks for you? Or are you being distracted everyday by your noisy office mates while you are busy keeping up with a deadline?

These things do not happen whenever you are at home and working. Telecommuting gives you the opportunity to do your work without the unwanted distractions you will encounter in the office. No phone calls, noisy people around and difficult boss.

All documents are passed on through email, you set up your own time, have a better salary and all this in the comfort of your home.

2. Your own responsibility.

When you are working from home, you get to be responsible for the tax payments and other benefits. Sometimes, employees get suspicious of the payments that are subtracted from their salary. In addition, they are obliged to pay for something that they do not necessarily need.

These things do not happen when you are working at home and on your own. This way, you can decide which payments should b prioritized and which ones you can do without. By having a file of your own expenses, you can set up a budget for the things that you need.

When pay day comes, you are not anymore surprised at the amount that you will receive.

3. No specific education needed.

The thing that matters most in telecommuting is that you are capable of doing the job. It does not matter if the degree you have is not related to your job. What matters is that you have the skills and have proven yourself perfect for the job.

A variety of telecommuting opportunities are out there. Freelancing, consultant, sales and a lot others are up for grabs. You only have to choose the one you are best suited with and you can start working already.

Outsourcing is one example of telecommuting. This is perfect for those who do not want to manage or work with other employees. You only have yourself to answer to. The success of your business will all depend on you and your strategies.

The above mentioned things are enough reasons why people are quitting their jobs and shifting to telecommuting. It can be that as the technology advances, more and more telecommuting business opportunities will surface.

As early as now, these businesses have already made a lot of people happier. And it has also created a world of opportunities for those who do not have definite career paths. Welcome to the world of telecommuting.

Business Communications Etiquette For the Telecommuting Employee

One of the most important aspects of being a telecommuting employee is the area of communications. From communicating with customers, to suppliers and advertising outlets, home-based workers need to keep a presence on the web more so than in a traditional office. Creating an open line of communication for telecommuting employees is easy and will not require and employee to be tied down to his or her computer or cell phone.

If working on an employer's designated work schedule, external communication needs to be addressed. This is communication with friends and family regarding your work schedule and when you are actually available to socialize. Many times people tend to think that a telecommuting employee is available to socialize because he or she works at home. Due to the lack of telecommuting jobs, home-based employees have to work flawlessly to show how dedicated to the job they are. With many people desiring a telecommuting job, employees sometimes take on extra tasks or put in longer hours. Having posted hours for both inside and outside the work environment strengthens communications between telecommuting employees and their social circle.

For home business owners or those not working on an employer's schedule, keeping an open line of communications with potential customers and suppliers is essential. From sending out of office email responses to posting dedicated customer service hours on your website, having an open line of written and live communications will help strengthen your business' presence and validate the legitimacy of operations, as customers and suppliers can rely on your response during posted operating hours.

Finally, having open communications with co-workers is essential for telecommuting employees. From being able to discuss company and departmental operational updates to being able to stay abreast of memos, keeping an open line of communication with co-workers helps the worker both professionally and personally. This is important as letters of reference, non-published job promotions and corporate camaraderie can be formed by having virtual office friendships. Be sure though to always stay positive and never say anything negative about the company; especially when using company email. Your goals in both written and verbal office communications should be to better yourself professionally by enhancing job performance as well as learning new marketable skills.

Working From Home - Will it Be a Home Job Or Home Business?

Let's just start by saying that most of us would like to work from home. According to a recent survey, about 45 million Americans earn from home while on the job. And, based on information from the US Bureau of Statistics, about 150 million Americans enjoy the benefits of a home based business. So what is the best choice, home based job or home based business? This is the dilemma that faces most of us when considering an income from home.

Let's evaluate the advantages of both from the perspective of freedom and security. I think you would agree that the presence of both of these factors would be enough to coax a move away from the office, for either a telecommute or a work at home business.

Jobs, by their nature, offer a sense of security. If you can work your job from home, a bit of freedom is also available to you. However, you still have a boss and an agenda to complete daily. If the job does not get done every day while telecommuting from home, how long will that job last? If you have a change in bosses, could that end your telecommuting job opportunity? For these reasons, freedom and security are always in question in the job realm.

If a work at home business opportunity is available, could you achieve more freedom and security working a home based business? I would say, "yes." Here's why.

A skill set is required by all the legitimate work from home businesses out there. Acquire that skill set and you have created in a sense, security for yourself. Let me give you an example. Imagine you went to college for five years to become an architect. You go to work for a firm and a poor economy forces them to lay you off. You still have your skills, so another job is imminent. Therefore, is the "job" your security or is it the architectural "skill set" you possess that determines your security?

In that same way, in my profession as an internet marketer I had to learn a skill set to operate my business. It is that skill set, not the particular online product or service that I market that will determine my security and ultimate financial freedom on the internet. Understand that if you are an online marketer, products and services may come and go, but your skills will improve with time and allow you to make a living progressively easier on the web.

Freedom, which could be defined as "having more free time while earning more money," might be difficult to attain with a job. Your income from most jobs is determined by replacement cost. It is very difficult to increase your income at a job even if you were to improve your skill set. The pyramid shape of most traditional businesses allows only a select few to enjoy the benefits of higher incomes while rising to the top. Telecommuting can increase productivity and maybe freedom, but the job still limits the income.

Freedom and security are probably the main motivators behind just about every decision we make. If most of us understood that we could create a secure and free lifestyle working from home as business owners versus telecommuting from a job, the home business turnstiles would start spinning out of control. In a way, I'm glad this internet work from home lifestyle is still the best kept secret. We want only the best of the best to work with us, so please only consider starting a work at home web business if you fit that description. Saves more for us.

Telecommuting Vs Online Business - Which Works For You?

There is a lot of talk about the benefits and differences between a telecommuting JOB and an internet business. These two very different opportunities need to be codified and explained.

Telecommuting is becoming very popular, as more people are choosing to do their job away from the traditional office setting. In fact, many more companies are now outsourcing work to telecommuters than they did several years ago. The reason for this is basic economics. Although these people are considered employees of the company, the company usually pays them as independent contractors, thus lowering their own overhead employee tax expenses.

There are numerous types of jobs for the telecommuter. Many of these pay an hourly wage, which may or may not be negotiable. Others offer a bulk compensation, per job assignment, which is not solely based on an hourly schedule, but also on the amount of expertise needed to perform the job.

Keep this in mind: Telecommuting jobs are JOBS and you are hired by an employer. Employers do NOT charge you to work for them. Any "job" that requires you to pay them first, should be looked upon with suspicion. Employers PAY YOU to perform a job. You DO NOT pay them to work for them.

Telecommuting jobs serve a definite need for those who wish to stay at home and earn an income. Realistically speaking, one can earn between $10 -$20 per hour. There are, of course, some exceptions to this, and one may find the occasional more lucrative opportunity, but that's a pretty good working number for most telecommuting positions.

For those who have a more entrepreneurial spirit, and wish to push the proverbial envelope further, their choice is the internet business opportunity. There are, as you surely know, MANY online businesses and models to choose from. The two big differences between the ONLINE BUSINESS and the telecommuting JOB are: The online business IS a BUSINESS, which always entails some amount of monetary investment. Secondly, the online business does offer the entrepreneur a much greater return on their time and money than the telecommuting job, and this is a very tempting thing, indeed. (Of course on the flip side of this, there is a risk of the business not succeeding, and that also needs to be taken into consideration)

The main points to consider are: Is the return on investment worth the initial investment of both time and money? Does the business model fit your own goals, needs, and lifestyle.

So, what does one choose?

That, to be very brutally direct, is up to the person, and their own emotional and business self make up. There are those who are more "employee-minded," and prefer not to take any risks or chances. This is perfectly fine, and these people will be very successful at earning a certain income on a weekly or monthly basis.

There are others, however, who are not satisfied with having a ceiling on their income, and are willing to take some calculated risks and create their own business. For these people, the online business is the perfect opportunity. One should also add into this equation that an online business will always require more time investment, as compared to a simple job.

There is no "right or wrong," here. Both avenues serve definite needs. The bottom line is for each individual to decide and realize their own comfort level and run with it.

As I have said, in all my postings, before one makes a decision, it is IMPERATIVE that you do your DUE DILIGENCE and RESEARCH on any job or business opportunity you are considering. Put the proverbial pen to paper and do the math, and make sure you are happy with the compensation and the opportunity being offered.

Whichever path you choose, I wish you much success.

See you at the top!
