How You and Your Family Beat the Game By Telecommuting

It's astonishing how a fundamental change can improve a person's lifestyle. By taking your work home, you can obtain a lot more time to spend with your family, more freedom to engage in your passions outside of work, and enjoy considerably more satisfaction with your life on the job. To put it in simple terms, working at home is a win-win answer to a number of lifestyle problems.

By telecommuting you'll do more (and better) work in a shorter period of time... We are all aware, it's not always trouble free to get work done at the office. There's seldom quiet time during regular business hours to sit and really concentrate. Office workers are regularly interrupted by ringing phones, unplanned meetings, and coworkers popping by to chitchat. This can be as discouraging for an employee as it is for the employer who is paying for this mediocre work time. Working from home can free you from these potential distractions, offering up long blocks of time to pay attention to your work. (Of course, your house or apartment may exhibit its own distractions, but in the end your productivity will elevate, as will the caliber of your performance. At the same time, you'll get to take advantage of the personal gratification of taking care of your work and taking care of business.

Stop commuting your life away... It's depressing but it's a fact: U.S. employees essentially spend more time getting to work every day than going on holiday each year. The typical employed American commutes in excess of 24 minutes each way, throwing away close to an hour in transit every work day. People in major U.S.metropolitan areas often spend substantially more time getting to and from work. Highest on the list are New York City residents, who throw away an average of 76.6 minutes on their daily commutes. Let's say your drive to work is around 30 minutes from your front door to the office parking lot. Throughout the course of a year, that would equal 240 hours on the road - the same as six 40-hour work weeks! That's a month and a half that you could have spent having fun in your backyard or jogging on the beach.

Telecommuting will absolutely help you save money... Almost everyone is undoubtedly experiencing the impact of very high gas prices, but few are hit as hard as commuters. For some, keeping their tank filled now costs as much as a mortgage payment. A number of businesses have responded with systems that encourage mass transit, shuttle buses, carpools, and, in quite a few cases, telecommuting. In a recently publicized survey of 2,000 work from home customer service agents, 36% said gas costs drove their consideration to work at home. Yet another major commuter associated cost is housing. Real estate costs have skyrocketed. Nearly half of all people who rent an apartment, according to the 2005 Census, are spending 30% or more of their monthly income on the rent. And over 33 % of property owners with mortgage loans are having to pay a comparable amount on their home and accompanying costs. This means that a family making $60,000 can be spending $18,000 or more just on rent or mortgage and tax obligations. The optimal jobs tend to be in or in close proximity to metropolitan centers-which is also where real estate prices are greatest. All too frequently, we're left to pick between a staggeringly large mortgage and an unbearably lengthy commute.
